New Telstra M2 Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Wi-Fi Router, Fast, & A Cracker Investment

The Netgear Nighthawk M2 mobile WiFi router that runs on Telstra’s 4GX LTE network is an upgrade to a previous model which was quite popular, the only issue for Telstra is that it runs faster on the Optus network connection according to our speed tests.

Powered by the powerful processor i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 it is being billed as the first 2Gbps LTE modem of the entire world that supports Category 20 LTE Advanced along with the 4X4 MIMO (multiple in, multiple out).

This is a plug and play portable WiFi router that is ideal for people on the go, or when attending a trade event or for those large presentations of sales.

Capable of achieving the top speeds of up to 2Gbps our tests revealed that there is not quite a big difference between the current and previous models despite the upgrades under the bonnet.

The Netgear Nighthawk M2 mobile WiFi router was tested initially through the Ookla Speed Test Network. This allowed us to dial up an Optus Server and a Telstra server.

On the Optus Server, they achieved maximum Upload Speeds of 46.34Mbps and maximum Download Speeds of 43.64. When they dialed into the Server of Telstra, they achieved Download Speeds of 42.68Mpps and Upload Speeds of as low as 21.40.

When we went to the Telstra branded Network of Speed Test and tested the device on the Chatswood Telstra Server, we were only able to manage a download speed of 32.3Mbps and an upload speed of 28.1Mbps.

When we tested the older Netgear 4G WiFi router on the same network the download speed was 31.7 Mbps and the upload speed 38.0Mps which was faster on the upload than the new M2 Night Nighthawk router.

These are excellent speeds for a portable mobile router that is an ideal investment for people who want to always stay connected on the go or for mobile professionals and is equally at home as a travel WiFi router or it can be used in place of a traditional broadband WiFi router in a small apartment.

The Netgear Nighthawk M2 mobile WiFi router can also be used as a media hub to stream content and play heavy multiplayer online games.

The device needs no software to install and can be set up in a couple of minutes. All you require is a SIM if you buy the device outright.

One of the major big difference is that the new model comes with a much larger screen and more data and information is delivered to the screen than the prior model. The new device also takes longer to start-up, and we suspect it is because it has a bigger processor and more data or information to boot.

We have been using one of these devices for many years and the latest model is an excellent if not a necessary investment for business executives or people living in quite small apartments and do not want to invest in a mainstream WiFi router.

As for speeds, it is faster than a lot of home WiFi routers running on ADSL and at an affordable price of $39 a month which includes 15GB of data, which is quite good value for money.
